New Aosdána members, elected at the General Assembly in March 2024, gathered at the Arts Council to learn more about the affiliation of creative artists in Ireland and what it means to be a member. Two events were held on 13th June and 30th July respectively.
The events were attended by Ed Bennett (Music), Jesse Jones (Visual Arts; elected Nov 2022) and Paul Lynch (Literature) on 30th July; and Sinéad ní Mhaonaigh (Visual Art), Catherine Dunne (Literature), Louise Lowe (Literature), Róisín Heneghan (Architecture) and Andrew Hamilton (Music) on 13th June. The other new member elected in March 2024 is Shaun Davey (music).
The members had an opportunity to meet each other as well as members of the Arts Council. Arts Council Director Maureen Kennelly welcomed the new members. The members listened to a presentation on Aosdána covering Membership; the General Assembly; Nominations and Election; Saoi; Toscaireacht; Cnuas and Administration, as well as hearing about Promotion and Special Projects.
Members of the Aosdána Toscaireacht John Scott, Peter Sirr, Evelyn Conlon, and Cecily Brennan were in attendance, as well as Aosdána and Arts Council Staff.
