Saoi Ceremony at Arts Council

Roger Doyle becomes the 20th Saoi in the history of Aosdána.

President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins presided at a ceremony in the Arts Council on Friday 16 August 2019 to mark the election of composer Roger Doyle as Saoi of Aosdána.

The honour of Saoi is bestowed for singular and sustained distinction in the arts and the President presented Roger Doyle with the symbol of the office, a gold Torc.

The ceremony was attended by the composer’s family and friends as well as many colleagues, including members of Aosdána and representatives from the music and arts sector. Also present were Arts Council Chair, Kevin Rafter and Arts Council Director, Orlaith McBride.
