Members of Aosdána are eligible to apply to the Arts Council for a Cnuas to assist them in concentrating their time and energies in the full-time pursuit of their art. The Cnuas, granted for a five-year term, is a multi-annual bursary offered to Aosdána members who meet certain conditions.
The value of the Cnuas is currently set at €17,180 per annum. A member may apply for a Cnuas at any time by requesting an application form and guidelines from the Registrar. Members who wish to relinquish positions in order to be engaged full-time in creative work may apply for a Cnuas, by making a declaration that their income level has changed and the Cnuas would make it possible to engage full-time in their practice.
The Cnuas may be renewed for subsequent terms of five years. Members must reapply using the Cnuas application form. Cnuas recipients receive quarterly payments, made automatically for three of the quarters in the year; quarter one, quarter three and quarter four. The quarter two payment, April – June, is only paid when the member completes and submits an artistic activity report outlining the creative activity in which he/she has been engaged and confirming compliance with the eligibility criteria for the Cnuas.
The names of current Cnuas recipients are published below as well as in the Arts Council Annual Report and other publications.
