Geraldine O'Neill

Geraldine O’Neill lives and works in her native Dublin. She studied at the National College of Art and Design at both undergraduate and graduate level, obtaining an MFA in 2008. Her work is concerned with visual culture, kitsch, fine art, the marginal and overlooked, and quantum mechanics; all pressed into service in relation to her own world and in the wider social and cultural sphere.

O’Neill has lectured in the Fine Art Department of the Dublin Institute of Technology, the Visual Art Department of St Patrick’s College of Education and as an external MFA tutor at the Massachusetts Institute of Art. In 2013 she was elected as an associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy, and in 2015 she was elected to Aosdána.
She has exhibited extensively in Ireland and abroad including at the National Gallery of Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the National Portrait Gallery, London. Most recent exhibitions include Volta Basel, Switzerland with Kevin Kavanagh, and SLAG Contemporary, New York.

O’Neill’s many awards include the Ireland – US Council/Irish Arts Review Portraiture Award and the Arts Council of Ireland Bursary. Her work is held in many private and public collections including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the European Central Bank, the Office of Public Works and the National Gallery of Ireland. O’Neill is represented by Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin.

Geraldine O'Neill was elected to Aosdána in March 2015.
