Pat Murphy

Filmmaker Pat Murphy began studying art at the Ulster College of Art and Design and was the first European to spend a scholarship year at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Hornsey College of Art and Design, and an MA in Film and Television from the Royal College of Arts, London. She lives in Dublin. Exhibitions include: P(ages) - etchings as part of a group exhibition at City Gallery Limerick (1998); The Event Horizon film series in association with Irish Film Centre at IMMA (1997); From Beyond the Pale film events to accompany sequence of exhibitions at IMMA. (1994); group show Studio 515 New York (1977); Vehicular Art Montreal The Muybridge Solo (1977); Film as Film Hayward Gallery (1978); Womens Arts Alliance London (1975).

Films include:
what miro saw (2002) commissioned by Irish Film Board as part of the short short programme - a diaristic fragment about Belfast born NY based artist Robert Janz and September 11th 2001 - shortlisted for UIP Award.
NORA (1999) 35mm cinema feature - co-produced, co-wrote and directed. Awards: UIP Directors Award. First prize Trieste Film Festival. Best Script (with Gerard Stembridge), Abruzzo Film Festival.
Strokestown Famine Museum - film installation (1992);
Sean MacBride Remembers- two part documentary for RTÉ 1998/89;
Anne Devlin - 35mm cinema feature (1984);
Maeve (1981) 16mm feature BFI/RTÉ co production.

Pat Murphy was a founder board member of FILM BASE in 1987, and has taught Film Studies and Film History. She was the keynote speaker at the Ireland-Australia Conference in Brisbane in 1993.
