Micky Donnelly

Born in Belfast in 1952, he studied at the University of Ulster from 1976 to 1981 and received his BA and MA in Fine Art. Among other awards and prizes, he has received the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Scholarship at the British School in Rome (1985/6), and several Arts Council of Northern Ireland bursaries. Since the early 1980s he has had numerous one-person and group exhibitions in Ireland, Britain, Europe, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and USA. His work is represented in most of the major public art collections in Ireland, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Ulster Museum, the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland, Allied Irish Banks, and the Office of Public Works. His paintings, drawings and installations are loosely concerned with the representation of nature within culture, and with ideas of randomness and contingency. He published his first novel, Doubletime in 2001.
