Born in Kilcool, Co. Wicklow in 1946, he studied at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin and the Central School of Art & Design in London before moving abroad. He has lived in Spain, Morocco, the U.S., Mexico, Berlin and Languedoc, France. Recent solo exhibitions include A Painter's Vignette, Carroll Gallery, Longford (1997); Taking an Emerald Tiger for a Walk, Fenderesky Gallery, Belfast (1998); Paintings for E, Taylor Galleries, Dublin (2001); and Napoleon's Ghost, Vangard Gallery, Cork (2001). Love Stories, a three-part exhibition of oils, watercolours and graphic prints based on his previous work incorporating cowboy imagery, showed at the Temple Bar Gallery, Taylor Galleries and Graphic Gallery in Dublin (1997). He has also exhibited work at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin, the Triskel Arts Centre in Cork; the Orchard Gallery in Derry; and La Porta Abierta in the town of Farrera, Catalonia, Spain. He won the Independent Artists major painting award in 1984, the National Portrait Award in 1989, and several Arts Council bursaries.
