John McLachlan
John McLachlan was born in Dublin and studied music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and Trinity College Dublin. He has studied composition with Joseph Groocock, William York, Hormoz Farhat, Robert Hanson and Kevin Volans. He holds a PhD in musicology from Trinity College Dublin, where he specialised in researching the compositional techniques of Boulez, Xenakis, Lutoslawski and Carter.
His works, which range from solo instrumental to orchestral, have been performed and broadcast in Britain, France, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, Romania, Moldova, Croatia, Slovenia, Finland, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, the USA, and around Ireland. His music has been broadcast on national radio stations in several European countries.
Awards include Composers' Bursaries, a Composers' Apprenticeship from the Arts Council of Ireland and first prize in the New Music for Sligo composition competition.
John McLachlan is currently Executive Director of the Association of Irish Composers.
