Eoghan Ó Tuairisc
Born in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, he was educated at Páirc Ghearrbhaile in Ballinasloe and at St. Patrick’s College in Dublin. He received a Master’s Degree in English Literature and Language from UCD. He later studied European languages at the VEC in Rathmines and also woodwork at the VEC in Capel Street. He served as an Officer in the Irish Army, and worked as a Primary Teacher in Dublin until 1961, when he became a full-time writer. His work includes poetry, drama, short stories, novels, essays and lectures in Irish and English. He edited Feasta from 1962-65, and also worked as editor for Clódhanna Teo., for Allen Figgis and Co, and for Mercer Press. In 1972, he married Rita E. Kelly, the poet and short story writer. His novels are L’Attaque, Dé Luain, and An Lomnochtán. His poetry collections are Rogha an Fhile, and Dialann sa Diseart (with Rita E. Kelly). He also wrote a number of plays, including Na Mairnéalaigh, Cúirt an Mhéan Oíche; Lá Fhéile Mhichíl; An Hairyfella in Ifreann; and Fornocht do Chonac. He translated a novel by Máirtín Ó Cadhain, published as The Road to Bright City.
