Deirdre Kinahan

Born in Dublin in 1968 Deirdre now lives outside Kells Co Meath with her family. She is actively involved in Irish and International theatre, collaborating with various venues, companies, artists and support organisations. She has written for her own company, Tall Tales, Fishamble, Livin Dred, The Civic Theatre, Bewleys Café Theatre and the Abbey Theatre amongst others in Ireland. The Bush Theatre, The Royal Court, The Old Vic in London and Manhattan Theatre Club in New York Most recent plays include WILD SKY 2016, SPINNING 2014, HALCYON DAYS 2012, BOGBOY 2010, MOMENT 2009, HUE & CRY 2007, MELODY 2005.

For Radio: BOGBOY (RTE) & A BAG ON BALLYFINCH PLACE (BBC)

For Children: Maisy Daly’s Rainbow, Snowchild and The Tale of the Blue Eyed Cat.

Deirdre’s work is translated into many languages and produced regularly in Ireland and on the International stage. In 2016 she is under commission to Fishamble Theatre Company, The Old Vic and Manhattan Theatre Club with dramas playing in London, Chicago, New York, Washington, Warsaw and Dublin.

Playwriting awards include a Fringe First for Halcyon Days, The Tony Doyle Bursary/ BBC Northern Ireland, the Jim McNaughton Tilestyle Bursary, a Peggy Ramsay Award and various Arts Council of Ireland Awards.
