Neil Jordan

Born in Sligo in 1950, he was raised in Dublin. He co-founded the Irish Writer’s Co-op in Dublin, and has worked with various theatre companies. He won the Guardian Fiction Prize for his first book, Night in Tunisia (1976), and has since published three novels: The Past (1979), The Dream of a Beast (1983) and Sunrise with Sea Monster (1994). In 1982 he wrote and directed his first feature film, Angel. His other films to date are: The Company of Wolves (1984, Best Film and Best Director, London Critics Circle); Mona Lisa (1986); High Spirits (1988); The Miracle (1990), The Crying Game (1992, Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, BAFTA for Best British Film); Interview with the Vampire (1994); Michael Collins (1996, Golden Lion for Best Film, Venice Film Festival); The Butcher Boy, based on the novel by Patrick McCabe (1997, Silver Bear for Best Director, Berlin Film Festival); In Dreams (1999); The End of the Affair (1999, BAFTA for Best Adapted Screeplay); and The Good Thief (2002). He lives in Dublin.
